What is Reformer Pilates?
At My Pilates Hub, Wooburn Green, we describe it as Pilates being performed on a specialised piece of equipment, known as a Reformer bed. The Reformer bed allows for a more challenging workout, and it provides faster results as it enables a greater range of movement. As pictured below, the reformer is a bed with springs that has straps, pullies, ropes, and a sliding carriage, which all create tension. Joseph Pilates devised this method to rehabilitate soldiers in World War 1.
Reformer Pilates focuses on core strength and proper muscle engagement. This is suitable for people with injuries because it is low-impact and high-resistance. The eccentric movement under tension improves muscle strength and core stability.
Reformer Pilates provides faster results; one session of Reformer Pilates is worth 6 sessions of Mat-based Pilates.
Booking 10 sessions will improve your body and can quickly alleviate pain.
We have only one body, so it’s worth investing in.
The Reformer sessions are tailored to each individual by noting injuries, observing posture and range of movement. These results help us to devise a comprehensive plan following your initial session. These sessions are provided on a 1-2-1 basis, rather than in a group session, and will accelerate your overall movement and rehabilitation, and help you achieve your personal goals.
The Reformer machine is not only a ‘ power house ’workout for your core, it also helps create internal pressure to elongate the spine, joints and muscles, which then leads to greater flexibility, strength, stamina and a more balanced posture, therefore alleviating pain.
What is the difference between Reformer and Mat-based Pilates?
Reformer Pilates focuses on core strength and proper muscle engagement on a bed with pulleys and tension cables. We perform closed-chain exercises due to this resistance: low-impact, high resistance.
Mat-based Pilates is open chain, as you have nothing but yourself to resist against. Mat-based Pilates is fantastic in its own right, but the results are slower.
Reformer Pilates provides faster results; one session of Reformer Pilates is worth 6 of those Mat-based.
Booking 10 sessions will improve your body goal and alleviate pain quickly.
We have only one body, so it’s definitely worth investing in.
